There were 400 cases of Diphtheria (including 11 cases of
Membranous Croup) notified, resulting in 39 deaths.
Twenty-two of these deaths were under 5 years of age, and 17
over 5 years, as against 219 cases recorded for 1898, which resulted
in 23 deaths.
