" Report on two samples of Water received October 17th from
Inspectors Grist and Broadhead.
" The samples were contained in Winchester quart bottles, sealed
and labelled respectively, ' Sample of Water taken from the Southwark
and Vauxhall Company's Main in Sonthwark Street, October 17th,' and
' Sample of Water taken from the Lambeth Water Company's Main,
Blackfriars Road, Samuel Broadhead. October 17th, 1892, at 12.0.'
" Both samples were clear and of a yellowish green colour when
viewed in a 2ft. stratum. They were free from taste or odour. They
Contained and yielded in grains per gallon :

" Remarks. On comparing these figures with those yielded by the
analyses of September 5th, a very trifling improvement is shown by the
Southwark and Vauxhall Company's sample, as indicated by the
Albumenoid Ammonia.
" The Lambeth sample is almost identical in Albumenoid Ammonia
and Oxygen required with the September sample of the
same Company's water.
"I am of opinion that both samples are still of unsatisfactory
purity.
"The microscopical examination of the tritling amount of
suspended matter in both samples showed the presence of a few
vegetable fibres (cotton) and earthy matter, but no moving organisms.
"With regard to the analyses made by me in September, I find, on
examining the Report of Dr. Odling and Prof. Crookes for that month,
that, on the 3rd and 6th, sample* were taken for analysis (from the
Southwark and Vauxhall Company's Main on the 3rd September, and
from the Lambeth Company's Main on September 6th). These
samples yielded the highest figures of any of the London Companies'
water for the month of September. I am of opinion that the figures
for these samples fully confirm my results of September 5th.
