having, amongst others, tendered, and his tender (£87 10s. 0d.
per horse per annum) being the lowest, the Hoard resolved to
accept the same, and a contract has been entered into by which
be undertakes to supply at the rate aforesaid a minimum
number of twelve horses on week days and two on Sundays and
public holidays, and any extra horses that may from time to
time he ordered, not exceeding twelve. Tenders were also
obtained for a shoot, and Messrs. Wakeley, Bros, having offered
to receive all dust, slop and refuse at 2s. per ton, and their
tender being the lowest, the Board resolved to accept it, and a
contract has been entered into accordingly for a period of three
years, determinable by either party at the end of the first or
second year. The work is now well in hand and further
particulars regarding it will be found in the Surveyor's Report.
During the course of the year, the Board caused several
analyses to be made of the water supplied by the two Companies
supplying the district, viz., the Southward and Vauxhall and
Lambeth Water Companies, and the results are shown in the
Reports of Mr. Richard Bodmer. F.I.C., the Board's Analyst,
thereon, a copy of which is submitted :

" Remarks.— On comparing these figures with the results of the
July analyses a decided deterioration in organic purity is manifest.
The figures for ' Loss on Ignition,' ' Albumenoid Ammonia,' and
'Oxygen required' are considerably higher in both samples than in
July, and slightly worse than the results obtained in October last, when
the river was in flood.
" In my opinion both samples are decidedly impure, and require
but little more to be condemned as unfit for drinking.
"R. BODMER."
