The effect of these appeals has been to reduce the totals
of the Quinquennial List to gross £963,526, rateable
£801,113.
The assessment of new buildings and alterations caused
by variations in the value of old buildings, including the
increase in the Government Property, during the year
1895-6, has increased the total assessment of the Parish to
the following amounts :—
Value at Lady Day, 1896.
Gross value £974,148
Rateable value £809,965
VALUATION OF GOVERNMENT PROPERTY.
In common with other Rating Authorities the Vestry
approached the Treasury with reference to obtaining an
increase in the values placed on Government Property in
the Parish, and a deputation from the Valuation Committee
had an interview with Mr Vincent Griffiths, of the
Treasury, on the subject. The result of the interview was
that amounts were provisionally agreed to by which the
values on which rates are paid in respect of property in the
occupation of the Government were increased from £15,257
gross, and £12,718 rateable, to £25,806 gross, and £21,509
rateable. These values were subsequently approved by
the Lords Commissioners of Her Majesty's Treasury and
by the Vestry.
VESTRY PROPERTY.
Vestry Hall.—During the year the Vestry had under
their consideration the desirability of re-arranging the
offices on the ground floor of the Vestry Hall. The Vestry
