was ultimately appointed Rate Collector for the Pall Mall
Ward, to collect the rates for the year in question.
On the transfer to the Vestry of the Public Baths and
Washhouses, the Vestry decided to continue to Mr. Chettleburgh,
the First Assistant Clerk (who held the position of
Clerk to the Baths Commissioners) the allowance, of £40
per annum previously received by him from the Commissioners,
on the understanding that the clerical work
connected with the Baths and Washhouses is performed by
him after ordinary office hours.
Mr. J. Born, Junior Clerk, has been appointed Junior
Accounts Clerk to assist in the Financial portion of the
work of the Accounts Clerk, and Mr. T. S. Robertson
has been appointed a Junior Clerk in the Vestry Clerk's
Office.
In consequence of the extra work devolving upon the
Hallkeeper and Messenger, owing to the recent alterations
to the Vestry Offices, the Vestry granted Mr. Warren an
additional allowance of £5 for extra assistance for cleansing.
Works Department.—In December last the Vestry
deemed it desirable to engage a Streets Inspector to have
control under the Surveyor of the cleansing of the streets
and the removal of slop from the Parish, and accordingly
appointed Mr. J. Daly, Streets Inspector, Hackney Vestry,
to the post.
Special Committee.—The Vestry appointed, just
previous to Lady-day last, a Special Committee to
inquire into the duties of all Officers of the Vestry,
and the question of the desirability or otherwise of
steps being taken to prevent a Sanitary Inspector
