them with regard to the most important function
you have to discharge, which is the care of the
public health.
I would then draw your attention, in the first
place, to the disease and death which occurred in
your Parish in the year 1860; and, in the second, to
the measures I have taken for the purpose of
preventing their extension and diminishing their
intensity.
In the first place I would call your attention to
the gross mortality for the year 1860. I find the
deaths from all causes amount to 723. In 1859
they amounted to 764, so that the saving of life in
the year, as compared with 1859, is 41. Although
there is this considerable difference between the two
years, the death rate is nevertheless above the average.
The following Table will give you the
death of the last five years:—

The average death of the five years is 710, so that
the past year has slightly exceeded the average of the
quinquennial period from 1856 to 1860 inclusive.
But in order that you may see how greatly the
health of the Parish has improved, or disease and
death diminished in the last five years, I present
