Parish of Saint George the Martyr, Southwark,
I must again draw the attention of the Vestry to the be
condition of the Carriageway Paving in the Old Kent Road. Twer
years have elapsed since the paving was laid. I would adv
the dressing and relaying of the same at the earliest opportunity.
Another Street Improvement has also been carried out in
Southwark Bridge Road by the widening of the roadway, and fix???
duplicate curbs. This has proved a great advantage to
general traffic.
It is to be regretted that the Metropolitan Board have decli???
to entertain the suggestion made by the Vestry to open ???
Street opposite the Workhouse into the Southwark Bridge R???
opposite the Tire Brigade Head Quarters, as it would have ten???
very much to improve the appearance of the new street and affor???
greater facilities for the traffic.
The Brunswick Rock Asphalte Paving Company has un???
Contract with the Vestry repaved the Footways in the Borough R???
part of the Footway in Blackman Street, the Footways in G???
Suffolk Street, the Footways and Carriageways in Delph Str???
Potier Street, Disney Street and Harrow Street. The work
carried out with promptitude and in a satisfactory manner.
With reference to the overhead wires of the Telegraph
Telephone Companies, I think the time has now arrived when
Companies should be compelled to place them underground. Du???
the snow storm in January last, nearly the whole of the w???
crossing the main roads in the Parish collapsed, to the da???
of the foot passengers and vehicular traffic; in one instance w???
came under notice, the fall of a pole nearly resulted???
loss of life.
