Surveyor's Annual Report. 27
A great boon has been conferred, especially to the children
No. 3 Ward, in the Parish by the conversion of the Lock Burial
ound, Old Kent Road, into a Recreation Ground. The estimated
st was £490, and the actual cost £472, part or which was
ntributed from Lord Brubazin's Public Garden Fund.
The contract entered into by the Vestry in December, 1883,
supplying fresh Trees where necessary, and keeping in good order
e whole ot the Trees and Tree Guards in the public streets in
e Parish, and replacing with fresh Trees those that are found to be
ad, will expire in December, 1888. The Trees planted in the
rish are in a very florishing condition, with few exceptions, and
uch improve the appearance of the roads they are planted in.
I would respectfully recommend the Vestry to take into
leration the advisability of planting Trees in the Lambeth Road,
being a very wide road and much used as a promenade.
I am pleased to report that the London, Chatham and Dover
ailway Company have agreed to carry out the suggestion made by
e and approved by the Vestry, as to decking the Borough Road
ridge, and the removal of the defective corrugated iron ceiling,
hich from its construction, has been the cause of so many accidents,
d so much annoyance from the percolation of water on the
assages passing under it.
The Company have given directions tor the work to be carried
ut immediately, which, I hope, will result in an abatement of the
uisances so long complained of.
