In March, 1893, the Vestry Resolved—That under the provisions of the Metropolis Local
Management Amendment Act, 1890, the footways in the following roads, etc., be paved
with Victoria Stone, viz.:—
St. Helena Road,
Corbett's Lane,
Rotherhithe New Road, opposite South Bermondsey Station, and in front of
Bermondsey Slop Shoot.
The work was carried out by the Vestry's own workmen at the following cost:—
St. Helena Road £37 5 0
Corbett's Lane £102 0 0
Rotherhithe New Road £441 3 0
and the same apportioned upon, and paid by the owners of the several properties abutting upon
the said footways.
The footway, Neptune Street, by Messrs. Brandram Bros., premises has also been paved
with Victoria Stone, and the cost thereof, £81 10s., paid to the Vestry by the owners of the several
properties abutting thereon.
The channelling and footways, Neston Street, have been regulated, and relaid and an
additional gulley provided so as to properly carry off the surface drainage.
The repaving of the carriageway, Union Road, and the relaying of the kerb and footways
have been completed by Messrs. Woodham, Fry & Fry, at a cost of £671 3s. l0d.
The following macadam roadways having been reported by the Surveyor in February, 1894,
to be in bad condition, the Vestry Resolved—To order 500 yards of broken granite to repair the
Bame,—
Clarence Street; Galleywall Road;
Swan Lane; Rotherhithe Street from Nelson Dock to
Tunnel Road; Cow Lane, and from Trinity Wharf
Kinburn Street; to Elgar Street;
Moodkee Street; Abbeyfield Eoad, and
Old Road; London Street.
