Carting Road Materials and General Work.
During the year 2,209 horses and carts were
engaged in this class of work for 294 days, giving an
average of 7.51 per day.
Cleanding the Public Streets.

The main thoroughfares and most important streets
are swept daily, especially the wood-paved roads ;
other roads two or three times weekly, as occasion
requires. Periodically the wood-paved roads are
washed and cleaned.
Sanding Frosty Roads and Snowy Roads.
It is now customary to send out before midnight
and in the early hours of the morning men, horses,
carts, and sanding machines, to scatter sand and
shingle on frosty and slippery roads; 286 horses and
carts were out on 33 occasions, the total hours worked
being 2,521, and 768 cubic yards of shingle, 202 chaldrons
of ashes, and 33 cubic yards of hoggin were
thus used.
Road Watering.
The vans and horses were out on 148 days, 5,787
horses being thus engaged, giving an average of 3 9'10
per day. Owing to the continuous dry weather, this
class of work was very heavy during the whole season.

placed daily in each water van about 3-1bs. of Kuna
Pine disinfectant.
