The old brick-sewers which require periodical
cleansing have received the usual attention, the amount
of deposit taken therefrom, consisting of grit and sand,
has been one hundred and forty-eight loads. The
smaller sewers have been flushed with water.
The necessary cleansing of catchpits of gulleys
has also been fully maintained.
1,520 loads of slop have been removed and carted
away.
The Underground Convenience at Paddington
Green has been very much utilised by the general
public since its opening. The gates of the Convenience
are opened each morning (except Sunday) at seven
o'clock and kept open until one o'clock the following
morning. On Sundays the gates are opened at nine
in the morning and not closed until midnight. One
Attendant is on duty from the time of opening until
four o'clock, p.m., when he is relieved by another
Attendant, who remains until the closing time. Each
Attendant is paid 15s. per week.
The official return of the number of persons using
the W.C.'s and the Lavatory during the year ending
March, and for which a charge of one penny is made
in either case, is as follows : —
