at the outlets of house and gulley drains; also the
reconstruction and repair of gulleys and sandpits, the
laying of one hundred and ninety-one new stoneware
pipe-drains from sewers to old premises in lieu of
defective and old brick or pipe-drains. These lastmentioned
drains were constructed for private persons
at their cost, amounting to £1,411 17s. 5½d.
The sum of £2,451 3s. 7d., which includes the
before-mentioned sum, was the actual amount paid to
the Vestry's Contractors (Messrs. Neave & Son) for
Jobbing Works executed by them during the year.
In June last the Vestry ordered certain Sanitary
Works to be carried out at the Vestry Hall premises,
30 as to improve the existing closet accommodation
and drainage. This work consisted of fixing Jenning's
patent flush-out closets and apparatus connected therewith
in lieu of the old defective valve closets. New
drains were also constructed, together with the necessary
inspection chambers and disconnecting traps, also
ventilating-pipes, &c. The amount expended being
£246 10s. 8d.
Applicants have desired examinations to be made
from sewers in order to ascertain the condition of their
private drains, and if possible rectify any defects
found in them. This has been done, and the number
of examinations made during the year have been
ninety-six, and the cost to the applicants £19 4s.
