REPORT, 1889-90.
the gardens in the rear, and thence into St. Vincent's
Place, and to the sewer in Queen's Road. In order to
give the occupiers an opportunity of improving their
drainage, by constructing separate drains from their
respective houses, and thereby removing the cause of
complaint, the Vestry passed a resolution to have a
12" pipe sewer constructed for that purpose in Bayswater
Road, extending from the brick sewer, east of
Queen's Road, to opposite No. 11, Coburg Place.
This work has been carried out by the Vestry's
Contractor at a cost of £199 8s. 0d.
At the request of the Works Committee, in May,
1888, I prepared a Special Report on the condition
of the Sewers and the drainage of houses in Portsdown
Road and Randolph Crescent, which was printed and
circulated amongst the Members of the Vestry. The
old 3.9" × 2.6" Brick Sewer in Portsdown Road,
between the Warrington Stables and Clifton Gardens,
3.0" × 2.0" Brick Sewer in Randolph Crescent, constructed
respectively in the years 1853 and 1862, have
been destroyed, and new 3' 9" x 2' 6 Brick Sewers
constructed about three feet deeper than the old
sewers, thereby considerably improving the means of
drainage from houses in these localities. The whole
of the house and other drains have been carefully
re-connected with the sewers, and trapped at outlets,
and in some instances new drains constructed with
improved gradients.
