parishioners in extra-parochial public institutions,
making a corrected total of 1,909 deaths—958 males
and 951 females, equivalent to an annual death rate of
16.9 per 1,000 inhabitants.
The natural increase of the population from the
excess of births over deaths was 989, as compared
with 1,121 in the previous year.
Of the 1,909 deaths, 1,468 occurred in St. Mary's
and 441 in St. John's Sub-district. The deaths in
St. Mary's include 123 deaths in the Workhouse,
71 males and 52 females, and 75 deaths—38 males
and 37 females—in the Paddington Infirmary.
The deaths were most numerous during the first,
and least so in the second quarter of the year.
The following table shows the ratio of deaths to the population, together with the death-rate per 1,000 in the Parish and in its two Sub-districts:—
