parishioners in extra parochial public institutions,
making a corrected total of 1,877 deaths—905 males
and 972 females, equivalent to an annual death rate of
16.8 per 1,000 inhabitants.
The natural increase of the population from the
excess of births over deaths was 1,121, as compared
with 1,205 in the previous year.
Of the 1,877 deaths, 1,394 occurred in St. Mary's
and 483 in St. John's Sub-district. The deaths in
St. Mary's include 158 deaths in the Workhouse, of
which 78 were of male and 80 of female inmates.
The deaths were most numerous during the first,
and least so in the fourth quarter of the year.
