4 DECEMBER 1889.
Vestry of the Hamlet of Mile End Old Town.
Vestry Hall, Bancroft Road, Mile End Road, E.
4th December, 1889.
To the Vestry of the Hamlet of Mile End Old Town.
Gentlemen,
re No. 7, Yalford Street.
I have considered the report of the Medical Officer of
Health referred to me at your meeting held on the 20th
day of November, in respect of the house and premises
known as No. 7, Yalford Street, under the provisions of
the Artizans and Labourers' Dwellings' Act, 1868.
The complaint contained in the said report of the
Medical Officer of Health is
That there is not sufficient light to the ground back
living room.
That there is not sufficient ventilation to the ground
floor rooms.
That the yard is too small to allow sufficient air space
at the back of the house.
That the walls of the passages are damp.
That the plaster is coming off in various places.
That the roof is defective, rain water coming through
into the living rooms.
That the passages are very dirty and dilapidated.
The remedy for the said complaint contained in the
said report of the Medical Officer of Health is to pull
down the addition room on the ground floor and pave
over the site thereof, and to add the same to the yard.
To cut out a course of bricks in the walls of the house
above the ground line, and to insert a damp proof course
therein.
To repair the roof gutters and down pipes.
To cleanse and repair the wood and plaster of the
passages.
To take off defective plastering of the walls and to reinstate
the same with new.
In my opinion it is necessary to demolish the back
addition room in order to remove the complaint contained
in the said report of the Medical Officer of Health.
I am, etc.
(Signed) JNO. M. KNIGHT.
