4 DECEMBER, 1889.
day of November, in respect of the house and premises
known as No. 141, Oxford Street, under the provisions of
the Artizans and Labourers' Dwellings' Act, 1868.
The complaint contained in the said report of the
Medical Officer of Health is
That there is not sufficient ventilation.
That the closet is situate in the cellar without any
partition.
That there is no yard at the back of the house.
That the premises are in a dirty and dilapidated condition.
I find upon inquiry that the adjoining houses belong to
the same owner as the house No. 141, and therefore
there can be no difficulty in carrying out the following
recommendations.
The remedy for the evil contained in the said report of
the Medical Officer of Health is to cut a door and window
through the wall of the cellar in the back part of the house.
To cut a window through the wall of the said house on
the ground floor and to cut a window in the said house
on the first floor.
To erect a closet immediately adjoining the back wall
in the yard at the rear.
To remove the closet in the present cellar.
To repair the brickwork of the walls of the said house,
and also the plastering of the said walls and ceilings.
To repair the flooring staircase to the first floor, and to
provide and fix a staircase to the cellar so as to give
proper access to the water closet.
To cleanse the walls and ceilings, floors and woodwork
of the said house.
To repair the fire places and hearths, windows, and
roof gutters and down pipes.
This house is not used for any other than business
purposes but there are a number of pieces of old furniture
in the room upon the first floor which are in a dirty and
unwholesome state.
In my opinion it is not necessary to demolish the said
house or any portion thereof, in order to remove the
complaint contained in the said report of the Medical
Officer of Health.
I am, etc.
(Signed) JNO. M. KNIGHT.
