Registered Births.
The Registrar-General provided particulars that the number
of Camberwell births for the year after correction for inward and
outward transfers was 3,934. These comprised 1,937 legitimate
males, 61 illegitimate males, 1,878 legitimate females, and 58
illegitimate females.

Notification of Births Act, 1907.
The information provided by the provisions of this Act is
supplementary to the responsibility which devolves upon the
individual under the Births Registration Act, and requires all
live and still births occurring after the 28th week of pregnancy
to be reported within 36 hours to the Medical Officer of Health
of the district in which the birth takes place. The information
thus provided by notification is extremely valuable, as it enables
the Health Visitor to exercise health supervision of the mother
and child in the early days following confinement.
During the year 3,739 births were notified, and of this number
120 were born dead. A cautionary letter was sent to the person
in default whenever it was discovered through the agency of the
district Registrars' returns that the birth of a child had not been
