Memorial presented by Dr. Massey, Hon. Secretary of the
Cabmen's Shelter, and signed, by 75 Cabmen (mostly
residents in the Parish) asking that it might be allowed to
romain.
Thurlow Street Extension. A Deputation from the
Works Committee of the Newington Vestry waited upon
the General Purposes Committee asking the co-operation of
this Vestry to procure the Extension of a road from
Thurlow Street, Walworth, to the Albany Road, Camberwell,
at an estimated cost of £2,000. It was suggested by the
Deputation that the London County Council should be
asked to contribute a moiety of the cost, and also to carry
out the work as a Public Improvement, the remaining half
being borne by the Newington and Camberwell Vestries.
it may here be noted that in 1875 the following
resolution with regard to this matter was passed by this
Vestry, viz.: "That if the Newington Vestry would
contribute one third of the cost, and the Metropolitan
Hoard one third, the Vestry would co-operate with the
Newington Vestry in carrying the Improvement out by
contributing the remaining one third of the cost."
Legal proceedings as to the Ownership of a portion of
the land required then prevented this Scheme from being
cauied out, but this impediment has now been overcome,
and your Committee recommended the Vestry on the 28th
January, 1891, as follows:—
''That this Vestry contribute one fourth of the estimated
cost (not exceeding £500) of the proposed improvement,
