LOCAL IMPROVEMENTS.
Forest Hill Road (West Side, opposite the Forest
Hill Tavern). The Improvement of the footway in front
of the Forest Hill Tavern has been carried out after
prolonged negociation with the Owners—Messrs. Truman,
Hanbury, Buxton & Co. The footpath has been reformed
with Kerbing and Tar-paving, the Owners having,
conveyed the land to the Vestry, and dedicated the same for
the Public use.
Camberwell Green Refuge, Urinal, &c. A Joint
Committee of the General Purposes and Sewers and
Sanitary Committee having been appointed by the Vestry
on a Memorial complaining of the danger and inconvenience
through the absence of a proper crossing to the South East
corner of Camberwell New Road, the Vestry passed the
following resolution on the 24th September last:—
"That the Cabmen's Shelter be removed (this not
being now used by the Cabmen) the Fire Escape placed in
a position higher up Denmark Hill at the head of the cab
rank, and the present paved and kerbed space now occupied
by the Cabmen's Shelter be enlarged."
Your Surveyor prepared a plan for the extension of
the open space of this Refuge, which received the approval
of the Vestry, and the work has been since carried out by
the Vestry Masons.
As regards the removal of the Shelter, the Vestry
suspended that portion of their order in deference to a
