It Will be seen that in most of the diseases included in
the table there has been a marked abatement of mortality
as compared with the year before. In Hooping cough there
was an increase of 355, and in the continued fevers, of 6.
But the mortality from Diphtheria fell from 896 to 846,
that from Scarlet Fever from 707 to 688,that from Measles from
2,928 to 2,078, and that from Small pox from 899 to 24. With
regard to Small pox it may be added that of the 24 deaths,
9 occurred in the first three months of the year, 12 in the
second, 2 in the third, and only 1 in the last.
Table IV. gives the actual populations of the Parish of
Camberwell and of its four sub districts, as they were
enumerated at the Census of 1881; and the populations estimated
for the middle of the year 1886, on the assumption
that the rates of increase of each district and of the Parish,
which prevailed between 1871 and 1881, have been maintained
since.

Table IV.—Populations of Camberwell and its Sub Districts.

Dulwich..Camber well.PeckhamSt. George'sParish.
As estimated at Census of 1881.5,59059,10471,08950,810186,593
As estimated for middle of year 1886.6,62482,61593,54662,890245,677

It Avill be found that the total for the Parish, in the
last line, does not correspond exactly with the totals obtained
by adding up the estimates for the several sub districts. The
diffrence is unimportant, and depends on the fact (which
renders absolute agreement impossible) that the increase
for each district, as also that for the entire Parish, have
been calculated on independent data.
