The Special Committee, to whom the matter had
been referred, met to consider this new phase of
the question, and made the following report thereon :
THE REPORT OF THE SPECIAL
COMMITTEE ON THE RE-DISTRIBUTION
OF SEATS BILL, 1885
Wednesday, April 1st, 1885.
"Your Committee beg to report that, in consequence
of an amendment—moved by Mr. Grantham M.P.—
having been carried in Committee of the House of
Commons,—by which amendment it was resolved to
add the Hamlet of Penge to the proposed new
Borough of Camberwell,—your Committee met, and
fully considered such alteration.
" Your Committee had submitted to them statistics,
and plans showing the addition of the Hamlet of
Penge, and a letter, from the Secretary to the Boundary
Commission, received in reply to the request of
the Vestry Clerk, for information as to what course
the Commissioners intended to pursue in view of the
action of the Committee of the House.
" Your Committee, after considerable discussion,
decided to recommend the Vestry strongly to object
to the Hamlet of Penge being added to the proposed
Borough of Camberwell, and to further recommend
that a Petition should be presented to the House of
Commons in support of the views of the Vestry. In
