only 18 feet 8 inches, and where the Vestry has
been making persistent efforts to widen the Road
and Footways to at least 45 feet, I apprehend that
nothing less than the purchase by the Company of
the property necessary to such widening could for a
moment be accepted. The present congested state
of the Traffic at this spot in my judgment renders
this alteration and widening imperative.
Another vital consideration in respect to so
narrow a thoroughfare as Rye Lane is the Paving
of the Roadway. In my opinion it will be impossible
to accept terms short of an entire Paving of this
Roadway with such material as may be determined
on. No Macadamized Marginal Spaces at the sides
of the Tramway should be permitted for very many
reasons, and which need not be gone into in this
Report.

Tramway may also require adjustment when the
matters of detail are under consideration.

The next point requiring attention is the narrow condition of Rye Lane. Commencing from Peckham High Street, the widths of the Roadivay are as follows:—
