BILLS BEFORE PARLIAMENT.
The North Metropolitan Tramways Company commenced the
promotion of a Bill to authorize a route along Bethnal Green Road,
but abandoned the promotion in February.
The Regents Canal City and Docks Company applied for an
extension of the period for compulsory purchase of land and
execution of works. The Vestry sought, but without success,
through the London County Council to secure the early execution
of works affecting Pritchard's Road in Shoreditch and Grove Road
bridge, or security for the expense of widening the bridges in the
event of the ultimate lapse of the Company's powers.
The bill for amending the Law relating to Buildings received
attention by the Vestry and its Parliamentary Committee.
Delegates from the Vestry attended a conference of Vestries and
District Boards.
NEW STREETS.
The Vestry have ordered that North Passage, also the passage
leading from Sidney Street to Harold Street, Minto Place, Flints
Court and Charles Court, should be paved at the costs of the owners,
as "Now Streets."
It has been asserted that the maintenance of North Passage has
been taken over by the Vestry. Individuals called upon to contribute
to the cost of paving, attended before the Vestry and
presented a memorial. The memorial was referred to the Works
Committee for enquiry. The Committee reported that enquiries
made did not support the statements of the memorialists, and the
Vestry resolved to proceed to collect the contributions in respect of
North Passage.
