QUINQUENNIAL VALUATION LIST.
The appeal brought by the Gras Light and Coke Company has
proceeded. On the case coming on for hearing the Company
claimed a still larger reduction than at first. The rateable value
fixed by the Assessment Committee is £13,000. The Company
claimed to have the Assessment reduced to £9,40(3. The hearing
of the case has occupied 22 days. The result, which was of great
moment to this Parish, has confirmed the decision of the Assessment
Committee. On the 23rd March, 1892, the Court ordered
that the Company should pay the taxed costs of this Vestry.
MISCELLANEOUS.
Roval Academy.—The Vestry renewed the application that
the Academy might be opened on Saturday evenings from 7.30
till 11, at the fee of sixpence. A reply was received stating that
the Council were unable to alter the decision arrived at in 1889,
not to open the academy on Saturdays at a reduced charge.
An application by the Improved Industrial Dwellings Company
for leave to plant trees in Corfield Street was assented to by the
Vestry, upon the conditions that the Company should bear the
cost of altering the footway pavement, and of making the same
good if the trees were found not to live.
The Vestry have effected an Insurance on the Boiler of the
Steam Road Roller, and the Boiler of the Disinfecting Apparatus,
by which means, in addition to indemnity to the amount of the
Policy, periodical examinations of the Boilers by skilled persons
will be secured.
