Street
Watering
The quantity of water used for street watering was
5,467,000 gallons, and its cost £106 5s. 3d. The sum
of £35 14s. was paid for the use of meters and repairs.
These are the smallest amounts which have been paid
for this purpose for many years.
An expense of £1 1s. 9d. was incurred in repairing a
main leading to a water post which was damaged by
frost.
Hare Stree
Nos. 48 to 56, Hare Street, being about to bo pulled
down and rebuilt, a give-and-take line was arranged with
the freeholders, so as to make a straight lino of frontage.
Steam Roller.
The boiler of the steam roller was repaired, and new
tubes fitted to same, by Messrs. Fraser & Co., of Bow,
at a cost of £25 1s.
Ion Square.
The Sanitary Committee recommended the Vestry to
erect a urinal in Ion Square, near Hackney Road, and
the question of the desirability of doing so was referred
to the Works Committee. After viewing the spot, the
Committee came to the conclusion that considering the
large traffic passing through the Square, and the fact
that the urinal formerly standing there was removed at
the earnest request of the inhabitants of the Square, that
it was undesirable to replace it.
Scavenging.
Mr. Stevens, the Contractor for Districts Nos. 2 and
3, was fined £4 for neglecting to remove the sweepings.
The men in the employ of Mr. Stevens were detected
sweeping slops into the gullies in Green Street. Although
the gullies in question are maintained by the Vestry,
they are connected with the main sewer belonging to
the London County Council. Notice was therefore
given to the Council, who prosecuted the men, and they
were fined 10s. each, at Worship Street Police Court.
