MARRIAGES.
In this Parish there are fourteen churches, Efteon chapels, and
one registry office licensed for marriages: of these there were in
tho
First Quarter 392
Second Quarter 515
Third Quarter 554
Fourth Quarter 554
Total 2015
This total indicates a marriage rate of 15.6 to every thousand
Persons; or, as in each marriage there are two contracting parties,
31.2 per thousand of our population entered the bonds of
matrimony. This, though double tho London Marriage rate, is a
great falling off for Bethnal Green, as the marriages were three
hundred fewer than in tho previous year.
I hope this means that we are becoming more provident, and
more inclined to look before we leap.
Twenty-three and a half per cent, of the deaths from all causes
were those of infants aged less than twelve months, for out of 4811
children born alive, 761 died before reaching the age of one year,
leaving only 4050 who attained that age. This gives a death rate,
calculated upon tho births, of 162 per thousand, the corresponding
rate for the whole of London being 163. The diseases most fatal
to infants were Chest diseases 170, Convulsions 107, Premature
Birth 59, Diarrhoea 60, Tabes Mesenterica 50, Suffocation 38,
Inflammation of Brain 20, Whooping Cough 43.
DEATHS OF YOUNG CHILDREN.
As usual nearly half tho deaths (1403, equal, that is, to 43.8 per
cent.) were those of young children aged less than five years. This
gives a death rato of 73.3 upon tho estimated population of young
children.
