    There were 18 creches held each week at 5 maternal and child welfare centres. During the year, however, the 3 creches held at the Richmond Road maternal and child welfare centre had to be closed because of the difficulty in obtaining staff.

    FOOD AND DRUGS ACT, 1955 Food complaints from residents who felt that they had been sold food which was unfit for human consumption totalled 45. A full investigation was made into all these complaints and the vendors of the food in question were informed and invited to submit written explanations. In 3 cases the complaints could not be substantiated and no action could be taken; warning letters were sent to vendors in 31 cases and legal proceedings were authorised in 11 cases.
