Council is required by the National Health Service Act, 1946, to
submit to the Minister of Health.
The following are particulars of the work done at the five
maternity and child welfare centres during the year:—

Attendances at the ante-natal clinics were very much higher
in 1946 than in any previous year. The average attendance of
expectant mothers was 21 per session and was considerably higher
on some occasions during the year. Additional sessions are being
held in 1947 in order to reduce the average number of women to be
examined at each session.

The Medical Superintendent of Hackney Hospital and the Secretary Superintendent of the Salvation Army Mothers' Hospital have kindly supplied the following figures regarding the work of the ante-natal clinics held at those hospitals:—
