Food Inspector's Observations.
"Approximately 120 people attended a wedding in Stepney
on 30th August, 1932, and partook of a wedding breakfast
and dinner consisting of nearly 40 different kinds of
foods. It has not been possible to trace the infected
food, but the Medical Officer of Health of Bethnal Green,
who has had several cases notified, considers poisoning
is due to either meat pie or chopped liver.
None of the Hackney cases was seriously ill. Food not purchased
or prepared in Hackney."
"This meal consisted of sausage, bacon, kidney, macaroni,
fried egg and potato. Patient only person in household
to have this meal.''
"No vomiting; no pain. Just general irritation of skin and
diffuse rash. Irritation and rash disappeared within 24
hours. Patient now well and back at business."
"Tin left open for two days when patient scraped off 'mould'
and ate beans."
"Food thrown away. Said to have been sour the day after
purchase.''
"Patient is of opinion that sickness has been caused by
eating his food at work without previously washing
hands."
"Five other persons ate exactly the same kind of food and
had no indisposition."
"No evidence available to indicate any particular food as
cause of illness."
"Seven in family. All partook of the same food. No other
members affected."
"Patient and 6 children had meal of tomatoes (1 lb. for 2d.),
and all had diarrhoea."
"Patient has delicate stomach, and it is probable that the
figs taken together with laxative medicines produced
symptoms. Patient well. Attack lasted about 24
hours.''
"Sister had half—no illness. Also had meat pie (one of 150
made). No other cases of illness have been reported in
district.''
"Family of five persons partook of exactly the same foods
with no ill effects. Patient has frequently had stomach
trouble since undergoing operation."
"Developed severe urticaria next day with temperature 99.5
and swelling of face. 130 persons had pork and rabbit
at same time and place—no other cases of illness reported.
Patient had been suffering with a cold for about a week.
Resuming work.''
