Ophthalmia Neonatorum.—During the year there were:—

Encephalitis Lethargica.—Two cases of this disease were
notified during the year, and both terminated fatally.
Influenzal Pneumonia and Pneumonia.—There were 33 cases
of influenzal pneumonia and 154 of primary pneumonia notified.
As provided in the Regulations, where the nursing was found to
be inadequate a nurse was sent from the Hackney District Nursing
Association, in accordance with an arrangements made with the
Superintendent at a fee of 1s. 3d. per visit. During the year
174 cases, including cases of pneumonia and broncho-pneumonia,
were nursed and 3,591 visits were paid to those cases. Influenza,
unless complicated by pneumonia, is not notifiable.
Malaria.—One case of this disease was notified during the year.
The patient was a missionary who had contracted the disease abroad.
Dysentery.—One case of this disease was notified during the
year.
NON-NOTIFIABLE DISEASES.
Measles.—This disease is not notifiable by Medical Practitioners
in the Borough, but it is possible to give comparative figures
relating to its incidence, since voluntary notification of cases has
been arranged with the School Medical Service.

The following table shows the number of cases discovered by the Health Visitors and Sanitary Inspectors, or reported to the Public Health Department by the Teachers of the London County Council schools, doctors requiring nurses for patients, charitable agencies, parents, etc.
