In addition to verbal warnings and advice given, 64 Notices were
served for contraventions of Meat Regulations, etc. These included
the following:—
Insufficient screening of meat 17
Water closet opening into food room —
Accumulation of refuse 5
Refuse receptacles— defective or insufficient 12
Animals improperly kept 3
Food rooms dirty 16
Utensils dirty 8
Water closets out of repair 10
No name and address on stalls 5
Food room floor and walls defective 9
Improper storage of food 12
Waste pipes improperly discharged 6
Shops dirty 10
Bedrooms opening into food room —
Food store not properly constructed 4
Drains defective 10
Contravention of Ice Cream Regulations 1
Meat in conveyance not properly protected 2

There are now on the Register in the Borough 151 Butchers'
shops (including 30 Kosher butchers), 77 butchers' stalls, mostly in the
market streets, 66 butchers' stores, used by stallholders for the storage
of meat, 36 provision shops where meat is sold from open fronts.
There are 93 food rooms in connection with the above premises where
meat is prepared and cooked.
Food Sampling.— 32 informal samples of food were purchased or
obtained for examination or analysis as to soundness or adulteration.
These included:—
Ice Cream 3 Milk 17
Butter 5 Bread 1
Flour 1 Almonds 1
Pickled Onions 2 Mincemeat 1
Tinned Food 1
Fifty samples were taken under the Food and Drugs Act for
analysis.
