(xi) Non-pulmonary tuberculosis is dealt with by admission
to the Victoria Park and Metropolitan Hospitals, and surgical
apparatus can only be supplied through Charitable Associations.
(xii) Care and After-care is carried out by the Hackney
and Stoke Newington After-care Committee. A report on the
work of this Committee is now being prepared, but will not be
completed in time for inclusion in this report.
(xiii) Employment for patients is sometimes found by the
Care Committee, who have stated their opinion that their powers
are inadequate in this direction.
(xiv) Three Shelters are supplied by the Council, and are
in constant use. More shelters are required.
(xv) No special points that are not generally common to
other districts have been noted as to the incidence of tuberculosis.
(xvi) It is proposed, if possible, to care for the advanced
cases to a greater extent than has been possible in the past.
(xvii) The special difficulties have been often mentioned
in reports of Conferences, resolutions forwarded to the Ministry
and in Annual Reports, and would require a fairly large report
to set out fully.
It may briefly be stated that the special difficulties are those
experienced in the administration of the Tuberculosis Dispensaries
(see page 65), in Care and After-care, in home conditions
where overcrowding exists, and particularly as regards the employment
of tuberculous patients.
The scheme for providing dispensary Treatment for tuberculous
persons in London is set out in the Circular letter of the
Local Government Board, dated 19th December, 1913.
