ment, £80 per annum; Extra Nourishment, £2 per 1,000 of the
population; Dental treatment, £70 per annum.
During the past year 100, or 53 per cent., of the persons who
died from pulmonary tuberculosis, were unable to secure a separate
bedroom during the course of the treatment at home, although
some of this number actually died in an institution; the total
number of deaths occurring at home during the year being 79, or
41.3 per cent. of the total number, 191. In 31 of the cases who
did not have even a bed to themselves, tubercle bacilli were known
to be present in the sputum. During 1924 the number of deaths
at home was 99, or 47 8 per cent. of the total number, 207, so that
this year's figures are slightly better than the previous year.
There were 125 deaths among dispensary patients, and 44 of
these patients, 35.2 per cent., were in the final stage of the disease
on first attendance; 68 patients, or 54.4 per cent. were in the
second stage. It also appears from an examination of the case
papers that 94 of these cases, or 75 per cent., had been suffering
from this disease for a period varying between three to twelve
months before being referred to the dispensary.
The Hackney Borough Council Act, 1926, will facilitate, to a
limited extent, the removal of persons suffering from pulmonary
tuberculosis who are infectious and live under such circumstances
that there is serious risk of infection to other persons.

quoting from the last Census return, a population of 28,457 persons,
equal in number to many Urban Districts, living in tworoomed
dwellings, and a population of 9,627 living in one-roomed
dwellings. This fact indicates the necessity for careful sanitary
inspection, and comparing the notices and proceedings as regards
housing property "nuisances" during the last five years with
