to enter the workhouse. Cases were brought to the notice of the
Care Committee where mothers suffering from pulmonary tuberculosis,
who had been under treatment in the Infirmary, had left
that Institution to take charge of their children, thus exposing them
to the risk of contracting tuberculosis.
The Public Health (Tuberculosis) Regulations, 1921, set out
in detail the procedure to be followed in the Public Health Department
as regards returns and the keeping of the Tuberculosis
Register. An extract from Circular 549 of the Ministry of Health,
suggesting action by the local authority when notification had not
been carried out by medical practitioners, has been brought to the
attention of those medical practitioners who had failed to notify
their cases.
The Public Health (Tuberculosis) Regulations, 1925, are now
in force, giving power to local authorities to prevent tuberculous
persons in an infectious condition from engaging in the milk

During the past five years arrangements have been made for
granting the following accessories to treatment at the Tuberculosis
Dispensary:—
Finsen Light treatment.
Artificial Pneumo-thorax treatment.
Artificial Light treatment.
Dental treatment.
Extra Nourishment for Sanatorium cafes waiting or
returned.
Shelters for home use.
These forms of assistance are strictly limited in amount to
the expenditure approved by the Ministry of Health and the London
County Council: as regards Finsen Light, £45 per annum;
Artificial Pneumo-thorax, £45 per annum; Artificial Light
