should be transferred to other districts, and there are also certain
births in outlying districts which should properly be transferred to
Hackney in order to obtain an accurate corrected birth rate for the
Borough. The Registrar-General has supplied me with the number
of births which should be so transferred, viz., 279 births to be
transferred to other districts and 121 births transferred to Hackney.
After making these corrections, the correct total of registered births
amongst Hackney residents is 5,267. From this figure, I calculate
the birth rate for Hackney during 1912 to be 23.6 per 1,000 of the
population. The birth rate for all London for the same period is
24.5 per 1,000 of the population.
Notification of Births.—Under the provisions of the Notification
of Births Act, 1907,1 received 5,548 notifications of births occurring
in the Borough of Hackney. This includes notifications from
medical practitioners, midwives and other persons. It also includes
still births. This total is 120 more than the number registered by
the Registrars of Births.
Amongst the births notified were 151 still born. This is equal
to 2.7 per cent. of those notified.
I give here a table showing the number of notifications of
births received, with other details in connection with the same:—
