*Marriages and Marriage Rates.— During 1912 there were 1,967
marriages celebrated in the Borough of Hackney. The annual
marriage rate for persons married during this period is therefore 17'6 per 1,000 of the population.

The following table gives the number of marriages, and the marriage rates for the Borough of Hackney and London for the ten years 1903-1912:—

Births.— The number of births registered in the Borough of
Hackney during the year 1912 was 5,425, of which 2,845 were
males and 2,582 females. The total shows an increase of 15 compared
with the number of births registered in the Borough during
1911. It must be remembered that this total is the actual number
of births registered in Hackney, but of these a certain number
