meetings. As this report is the 26th, I think it only
right to thankfully acknowledge the uniform support, in
carrying out my duties, that I have received from the Board
during the 25 years I have been their Medical Officer of
Health, and also to the Sanitary Committee during the
15 years I have acted under their more immediate direction,
and trust that a similar support will he afforded to me so
long as I shall perform the duties of my office.
The weather in the month of January was unusually cold
and dry, being more than 5 degrees below the mean of the
previous 39 years, and the rainfall was the smallest since
1826. February was warm, having had a mean temperature of
more than 8 degrees in excess of January, although it is often
colder than that month. March also was unusually warm,
the excess in these months being about 2½ degrees above the
mean. The rainfall was also in defect in March. The
weather in April was variable, the early part being warm,
whilst the middle and latter end were cold and rainy. The
first half of May was cold, especially at night, the day
temperature being often high from warm sunshine. The
rainfall was a little in excess in April and June, but was
below the average in May. June was cold, being 1½ degrees
below the average. In July the rainfall was in excess by
1.3 inches, whilst the temperature was minus 0.4 degrees, and
in the early part of August cold still prevailed, but gave place
during the last three weeks to fine bright weather, the rainfall
being an inch and a half below the average. September
was unusually warm, the mean temperature being more than
two and a half degrees in excess, but the rainfall was also in
excess by an inch and a half. October was cold and wet, the
mean temperature being in defect by 4 degrees and the rainfall
as much as 5 inches in excess. November was cold
during the first and third weeks, but somewhat warmer for
the other portion of the month, the mean being nearly
