mild, the mean temperature being 3.1 degrees in excess.
In January the thermometer fell below freezing point on 23
days in Hackney, one day being as low as 18 degrees, and in
February on 5 days only. In May the thermometer rose to
85.6, and was as low as 34.2, being a range of above 50
degrees. In June the highest temperature recorded was 78.6
degrees; in July, 77.6 degrees; in August, 81.4 degrees; in
September, 87'8 degrees; in October, 63'8 degrees, and the
lowest 30.2 degrees, giving a range of 33 degrees. In
November the thermometer fell to 25 0 degrees, and in
December to 30.6. In June there was an unusually heavy
rainfall, viz., 2.28 inches on the 25th; in July there was a
fall of 1.09 inches; and in September of 1.68 inches.
