FORTIETH ANNUAL REPORT
ON
THE SANITARY CONDITION
OF THE
STRAND DISTRICT, LONDON.
TO THE STRAND DISTRICT BOARD OF WORKS.
Gentlemen,
The resident population of the District for the
year 1895, estimated on the same basis as explained in
my report for 1892, stands at 24,800.
The District for purposes of Registration of births,
deaths, and marriages has been re-arranged by the
Registrar-General. The two Sub-Districts of St. Mary
and St. Clement have now been united to form the
"Strand Sub-District." The population of the two
divisions of the Sanitary Area is estimated to be similar
in number.
1 have in previous reports pointed out the difficulties
which exist in making a correct estimate of the
population, and that considerable difference existed
between the estimate made by the Registrar-General
for purposes of Vital Statistics, and that made by him
