In addition to the ordinary notices for the abatement
of nuisances, 618 letters have been written during
the year. The street markets have been regularly inspected
every day (including Sundays).
The stables and mews, 62 in number, have been
regularly inspected, more particularly in regard to the
periodical removal of manure.
The number of works of sanitary improvement
carried out include a number of extensive and complicated
schemes of re-drainage and re-construction which
have been carried out in a satisfactory manner under
the supervision of your Inspectors Systematic inspection
of houses has gone on regularly throughout the
year.
Some re-arrangement of duties of the staff was
rendered necessary by the resignation of one of the
Inspectors in the Spring of last year. Mr. Inspector
Strutt has now charge of the whole district so far as it
relates to dwelling houses, disinfection and the execution
of the Food and Drugs Acts. Mr. Inspector
