The deaths in the Workhouse have been 59. In the corresponding
Quarter of last year they were 62.
The deaths from epidemic diseases in the entire District have been 94 ;
viz.:—2 from measles, 3 from scarlet-fever, 1 from diphtheria, 4 from
hooping-cough, 80 from diarrhoea, and 4 from fever. Two deaths of patients
from this District occurred in the Homerton Fever Hospital; thus making a
total of 6 deaths from fever.

epidemic diseases were 98, viz.:—0 from small-pox, 10 from measles, 7 from
scarlet-fever, 3 from diphtheria, 15 from hooping-cough, 57 from diarrhoea,

Quarter.
Mortality of Young Children.
The mortality of children under 1 year of age was 149. This is 24.7
per cent, of the total mortality. In the corresponding Quarter of the previous

total mortality. In the Spitalfields sub-District the rate is 40.2 per cent.;
in the Mile End New Town 32.3 per cent.; in the Whitechapel North 42.0
per cent.; in the Whitechapel Church 10.3 per cent.; in the Goodman's

Fields sub-District the deaths under 1 year were 21, and the total deaths 41 ;
in the Whitechapel North sub-District the total deaths were 50, and those

is explained by the deaths in the London Hospital, in which Institution the
deaths of children under 1 year are very few.
In the corresponding Quarter of the previous year the rate of mortality
of children under 1 year in the Spitalfields sub-District was 40.2 per cent. ;
in the Mile End New Town it was 28.0 per cent.; in tho Whitechapel North
