BIRTHS.
During the year 756 live births were registered, an
increase of 119 over last year's total. The rate per 1,000
population was 17.5 compared with an average for England
and Wales of 19.1. Of the total number 33 or 4.3 per cent.
were illegitimate. The birth rate is higher than that of last
year but does not quite reach the high recordings of the two
preceding years.
