Borough of Malden and Coombe
ANNUAL REPORT
or
THE MEDICAL OFFICER OF HEALTH
1946
Public Health Department,
Municipal Offices,
New Malden.
July, 1947.
To the Mayor, Aldermen and Councillors of the
Borough of Malden and Coombe.
Ladies and Gentlemen,
I have the honour to submit my Annual Report for the
year 1946, which has been prepared in accordance with Ministry
of Health circular 13/47.
Vital statistics, which are dealt with in the text, are very
satisfactory and show an advantage in almost every department
over the average for the country as a whole.
The population, as estimated by the Registrar-General,
represents a big increase over that of the previous year which
was probably under-estimated. The population of the district
is now considerably higher than it has ever been in the past
and it is almost superfluous to say that the most pressing
problem of the moment is that of housing.
I should like to record my appreciation of the work of
the sanitary and clerical staff during the year, and to thank
the other chief officers for the co-operation and help given by
their departments.
I am,
Mr. Mayor, Aldermen and Councillors,
Your obedient Servant,
JAMES FANNING,
Medical Officer of Health.
