Milk and Dairies (General) Regulations, 1959—Regulations 18 to 20.
No action was called for under Part VII of the Milk and Dairies
(General) Regulations, 1959, which empowers the Medical Officer of
Health to examine persons handling milk or milk receptacles who are
suspected of being infectious or to suspend from work workers found to
be infectious or to deal appropriately with any milk supply, where there
is evidence of its being the cause of disease or reasonable grounds for
believing that it is.
Qualitative Analysis
The number of samples of milk submitted to the Public Analyst for
qualitative analysis was 171. Of these 19 were "Channel Islands" and
"S. Devon'" milk in which the cream content must be not less than 4%
instead of the usual legal limit of 3% for ordinary milk. All were
satisfactory.
The average fat and non-fatty solids of the "Channel Islands" and
"S. Devon" samples was 4.4% and 9.0% respectively; that of the remaining
154 samples 3.52% and 8.62%.
Ice Cream
For the two previous years all samples of ice cream without exception
conformed to the highest standard of bacteriological purity. This
desirable result was repeated again in 1960 when all 84 samples were
classified by the laboratory as being of Grade I.

The following is the analysis of the result of sampling since this system of bacteriological grading was first instituted in 1947:—
