Canned Pork Sausages.
This was an imported product from South Africa. The only irregularity
was that the presence of salt and spices which the sausages contained was
not indicated on the label, as is required by the Labelling of Food Order
1953. The suppliers gave an assurance to remedy the omission.
Section 9—Sale of Food Unfit for Human Consumption
The following complaints were received of alleged foreign matter in
purchased foods:—
Maggots in Bacon Wire in Cheese
Moth in Bread Maggots in Milk
Wood in Bread Glass in Sultanas
Glass in Bun Glass in Tea
The evidence as to how and when the alleged contaminants gained
access to these commodities varied in considerable degree, but none was
sufficient to warrant legal proceedings. Appropriate action was taken with
the various vendors.
