in new buildings of such arrangements for heating and cooking as are
calculated to prevent the emission of smoke. A local authority may themselves
undertake or contribute to the cost of research into air pollution and
provide publicity and information on the subject.
Eight complaints in respect of atmospheric pollution were received and
dealt with during the year.
For several years the Council have provided deposit gauges for
recording the quantity of grit being emitted into the atmosphere at three
selected sites in the district, the readings from which are calculated intermsof
tons per square mile. Additional apparatus is also installed at The Lodge
for measuring the density of smoke pollution and the concentration of
SOa in the atmosphere. The deposit gauges are sited as follows :—
Gauge A—Welbeck Road
Gauge B—Winchcombe Road
Gauge C—Limes Avenue
