In addition one lot of bedding was stoved for vermin.
Incoming tenants of Council houses as well as vacated Council premises
are visited by the Sanitary Inspectors before letting is effected to ensure
that verminous families are not admitted to clean houses and vice versa.
Smoke Abatement and Atmospheric Pollution
In order more accurately to estimate the degree of atmospheric
pollution, the Council have installed three deposit gauges sited after consultation
with the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research, as
follows:
Gauge (A) at Welbeck School, gauge (B) at Winchcombe School, gauge (C)
at Limes Avenue. Apparatus for measuring the sulphur dioxide content of
the air and the intensity of smoke was also set up in the grounds of the
Public Health Department at the Lodge. The following is a summary of
these investigations :
