Prevention of Damage by Pests Act, 1949
The work of pest destruction was continued in conformity with the
arrangements agreed with the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries.
Eight thousand one hundred, and eighty-four visits were made by
the Rodent Operatives concerning 1591 properties and 340 rat and
mouse infestations found. Of that number 296 were found in private
premises, 34 in business premises and 10 in Council premises.

With regard to sewers, two maintenance treatments were carried out, one in May and the other in November. The results are shown in the following table, together with those for the three previous years:
