With regard to sewers, two maintenance treatments were carried out, one in May and the other in November with the following results :—

Shops Act, 1912-1938.
Seven hundred and fifty-eight inspections of shops were made
and informal action was necessary regarding infringements in 60 cases.
There were 497 shop premises on the register at the end of the
year.
Section 10 (Health and Comfort).
Three shops had improved lighting provided.
Five shops were provided with means of maintaining a reasonable
temperature.
One shop was provided with sanitary accommodation.
Forty shops were provided with washing facilities.
Offices.
Sixteen inspections of offices were made, but no action was
necessary.
Swimming Baths.
The one privately owned swimming bath was in use during the
year, and four samples of water were taken, all of which were satisfactory.
Disposal of the Dead.
The number of interments in the Carshalton and Merton and Morden
Joint Cemetery Board's Cemetery at Morden during the year under
review was 358, and of this number 128 were from the Carshalton district.
The Churchyard adjoining the Carshalton Parish Church continues
to be used for burials, but this is mainly for the re-opening of existing
graves.
Negotiations for the establishment of a Crematorium to serve the
districts of the Battersea Metropolitan Borough Council, Wimbledon
Borough, Sutton and Cheam Borough, and that covered by the
